Chic Flapper inspired hat!

I think it is funny now that I am strting to get out of the house more and since I am on a budget, I am comming up with more stuff! I had a night out on the beach last Sunday and I wanted something new and cute to wear... what's a girl to do??? I went through my yarn on Sunday around 1pm and found some yummy yarn by Charisma,  Here it is  http://www.michaels.com/Loops-Threads%E2%84%A2-Charisma%E2%84%A2-Yarn/nw0470,default,pd.html
Which I'd bought with my 40% off coupons at Michaels. BTW Joanns and Michaels normally honnor each otheres coupons so always make sure you have a few in your car :) You can google 40 or 50% off for which ever store you want and normally find coupons to print online as well as get them in the mail or in a newspaper!
The color I used was Chocolate Cupcake, let me just say it made me want to break my diet just looking at it! Though to me it looks more like chocolate diped strawberries! Can anyone say FABULOUS!!! I orginally had bought the yarn to make a blanket however the balls are like 3.99 a piece and they are pretty small balls.. so I decided not to.. Which worked out perfectly because I decided while my boys took a nap after church I would make a cute hat to wear for my night out at the beach.

Pattern for Chic Hat with Flower ( I will take better pictures but now now I wanted to get this pattern posted)
The hat is MY own creation and the flower I found a youtube video on by Teresa Richardson from the Art of Crochet

You will need 2 balls of size 5 or bulky yarn, I used Loops and Thread's Charisma

You will use a size K crochet hook

You will crochet 2 pieces of yarn as one.

Start with a magic circle and chain 1       (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLuSVyKvoUg)
                                                              Great video example by Teresa
Round 1  12HDC SL in beging HDC                      (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXHq1i80hw4)
Great example by Mikey on how to Half double crochet or HDC
                                                           (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJE1UTuUjxM)
                                                                  example or SL by Teresa
Round 2    2Hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next st* around. (18 sts)
Basically you HDC 2 in every other stitch, supper easy when you get the hang  out it and this is called increasing and it is how the hat gets bigger!

Round 3  2Hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 2sts* around. (24 sts)
Basically your are continuing to make the diameter bigger :)
Round 4  2Hdc in next st, 1hdc in next 3sts* around
Round 5-7  continue with the pattern of increasing ( 2hdc, 1 in next4, 2hdc 1 in next 5 ect ect) (48 st)
Round 8-10 Do 1Hdc in each Hdc around
Round 11-12  2 Hdc decrease then 1 hdc in each hdc
Last round!!!! Skip 1 st, 3 dc in next st, sk 1 st, sl st in next st* around. Fasten off
and weave in ends

Now I have seen many versions on this hat online but I have yet to see a free one so I made this up based off what I thought would be cute!!
Next here is the link to the flower I used in the hat which is NOT my pattern, but it looks fabulous with the hat!!!! I chained 61 instead of 31.. play with it until you find the size YOU like! Also the hat is extra Chiq with a bling bling gem in the center of the flower!

  3. I'm confused about rounds 11 and 12. Are there supposed to be three stitches in each HDC around? ie. two hdc decreases and 1 hdc in every stitch? That is how I read the pattern, but it isn't looking like your picture. Thanks for the help!

    1. One HDC dec. In the first two stiches, then one HDC in each stitch to the end, join w/Slip Stitch. (You are decreasing one stitch per row 11 & 12 for a total of two stitches.)

    2. Hello, CC. Helen, here. I do not know how to attach a picture. I finished my head hugger with two rounds of bucket hat flare and your lovely edging that reminds me of a bow tie. It came out really cute. Thanks for posting your pattern and picture. It is for an older lady who inspired me to the pattern with her sweetness and kindness. Happy holidays among your loved ones and Merry Christmas. ~Helen

Cross Bangle

I wanted to crochet a sideways cross bracelet for some time now but it wasn't until I received this lovely STARDUST( by Red Heart yarn ) that I actually sat down to make it!  This project will fly by you will want to make one for everyone at church :) Stardust - any color you like I used #1303 Brown * this requires very little yarn, so make a lot!* E crochet hook Skill - Advanced Beginner (* HINT this is basically a vertical row or a shell*) First stitch*** Ch3, hdc 3rd ch from hook, ch1, 2 hdc ( all in the same space) Every other one*** *turn, slip stitch until you and in the ch1 space, ch2,1hdc,ch1,2hdc* repeat until you have the length desired, * it should stretch slightly to slide on and off your wrist.. ** suggested lengths _ Woman's s/m ~18 shells l/xl ~20 shells Mans~ 23 shells child~ 11-15 ( 11 fits most five year olds) sew the 2 ends together and weave in your tail at least 4 inches worth so it will not come undone. ***Add the cross part***

Thread Cross Bookmark

I used Aunt Lydia's Crochet thread and a size D hook. Make a magic circle Round 1 Ch3, 2dc, ch2, 3dc, ch2, 3dc, ch2, 3dc, ch2 and join. Sides and top of cross Ch3 2dc, ch2, dc3 in any ch2 sp. Turn and *sl to ch2, ch3,2dc, ch2,3dc. *Turn and repeat * repeat everything in this step 3 more times. Cut thread and weave in ends at the ends of the sides. Bottom of the cross When you get to the last side repeat the * section 2 more times for a total of 4 shells for the bottom and 2 shells for the sides not including the center. On the top of the cross attach yarn and chain 26, skip the first 5 and sl to the first chain. Then I added a tassel. If thread isn't your thing check out this great bookmark Stitch 11 made from my Cross Bangle pattern! Check out the Stitch 11 post here

Easy simple no shaping stocking ornament

Step 1 This is the star stitch but you can make these any size and any stitch just make it in this shape. The above sample has 19 star stiches on the bottom ( 2 rows plus beginning hdc row)and reduces to 10 star stiches ( 3 rows) step 2 turn so the right sides are facing each other, and sew them together like the above picture,. isdsjfklajlkdsjc step three turn right side out! attach a chain 5 if desires so you can hang it. I am making about 30 of these for my 6 year old to hand out as Christmas gifts at school with mini candy canes in them! Below is a crochet chart for a basic hdc stocking but you can use any stitch. * turn at the end of every row,  * ch1 and hdc in the first stitch of every row Row 1 ( starts from the bottom up) chain 38 Row 2 38 hdc Row3-6 repeat row 2 Row 7 starting 11 stitches over ( you can do this my sl or if you alternate colors just attach the yarn on the 11th stitch) hdc in the next 18 stitch  Row 8 until- (desires length i
