A Maleficent Cowl

Lion Brand kindly sent me a ball of their new yarn line Landscapes.  ( THANK YOU LION BRAND, feel free to send yarn anytime hehehehe )  WOW is it LOVELY the colors are incredibly vibrant and the yarn is extremely soft.  It's an Acrylic yarn but feels more like a soft blend. It come in 6 exciting color ways Apple Orchid ( That is the colorway I used) Tropics, Boardwalk, Sand Dune, Desert Spring and Mountain Range. Each ball is 100grams/3.5 oz (147 yards) and it's a #4 medium weight yarn.  The label says to use a K hook but i wanted to make something using only one ball so I opted for a design that used an H hook.

Twilight sparkle gets a make over! * this is a guideline not a pattern

*Please note this is meant to be used as a guide line and is not a stitch by stitch pattern however if you have crochet experience this should be the steps you need to make this dress* My youngest LOVES My little pony especially  the Equestria Girls  . I think the movie is cute but the hem line on those dresses leave NOTHING to the imagination! And it's hard to play with the doll with out her dress falling down...It really bugged my five year old that the dolls underwear kept showing! So I grabbed a few Bon Bons    in the Brights and went to work! I started at the waist and chain to the width and added 3 extra for over lap ( I sewed Velcro on to make the dress easy to get on and off! ) to give the skirt texture I did one row hdc. then on the next I did sc and put in increases in every other stitch. The next row I did just hdc, and the next was sc,sc, 2sc repeat . To give a little flare I did hdc *ch1 sk 1 hdc* and repeated until the end. I worked 2 sc in each...

The square I didn't make!

Saturday night my boyfriend asked me if I wanted to go to Michaels and or Joann's before we watch a movie together.... Generally I would jump at the chance but just this past week  I got a LOVELY shipment from Lion Brand and more yarn would just be distractions! He then said well I want to help you with your granny square inspriation blanket but I will not use a pink hook.... So off to the craft store we week! My first thought was lets get him a Crochet Dude Hook ... those are manly right? He went for one of my favorites  A soft touch by Clover . ( pattern is at the bottom )

off kilter Granny

This Granny was inspired my amazing 7 year old! He was sick all weekend so I made a square in his favorite color! I used a I hook and Vanna's Choice in Sapphire I really like this square and I think it would be a fun one to do 50 rounds or so in for a baby blanket or a lap blanket.  For those of you that can read Crochet charts you can see my notes on how to create this awesome square! I am writing this pattern out the way i used to teach it in my classes at Michaels

Black out

So on April 3rd I had no power and I was pretty stressed!  I made a Basic 4 round dc granny using a J hook and Black Vanna's choice then I did a solid hdc border.

Help me name this square!

With out trying I think I just used all the colors in my bathroom counter!!  The inspiration behind this square was having no power for the 3 days in less than 9 days!!!!!!!!!! ( thank you power company for not realizing  that my house would be affected by the outage even though your workers had to be in my yard to work on the poles..... okay end rant....  )

Dew on my leggings Granny square

Here is my inspiration for my 2nd square! My leggings were the same shade as dusty rose and I knew they needed to be represented in a square. If you can't tell I really love pinks and these are currently my favorite leggings. It was very damp and I Dew was everywhere so I wanted to get a bit creative with a basic granny square.

Grapes and Vine Granny Square

Supplies: I used Lion Brands Vanna's Choice in Olive and Purple I a size J hook but use any size you prefer Using purple make a magic circle Round 1

April Inspiration

Good Morning everyone!!!! I am super excited to tell you about the next 30 days here at Crochet Chiq! I am been watching #moodblanket posts on my twitter and instagram feed and I have been inspired, For those that don't know mood blankets are made by crocheting 1 square a day depending on you mood and at the end of the year you have an awesome blanket!!!  I want to do something quicker than that :) I am going to be making 6-7 inch squares Monday-Saturday this month and then add an edging and joining on Sundays! I will be using colors in Lion Brand's Vanna's Choice line. I will use all sorts of hook sizes to get which ever stitch to the size I need. I also want to do more of a inspiration type square for example below is a photo of my first day's square When my boyfriend wanted to go out for pasta I knew I had these exact shades!

Tardis.. I mean British Police Box beanie with ear flaps

Check it out these Snappy Tots patterns  I have never looked and  I h ave heard people rave about them.  Part of the reason is a majority of her patterns are paid (at least i thought)  and I just don't have the budget to buy patterns and yarn...  I do buy every once and a while though I love supporting designers when I can :-) Back to Snappy Tots she (Heidi) is retiring a large amount of beautifully written patterns in pdf! To celebrate she is also discounting all of hef paid patterns this week too! http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/police-box Here is the link to the patter  I love!  Here are notes and changes i made while making mine I crocheted everything in the round and sl right before color changes. For the windows of the police box for the white i did hdc and the blue was fpdc.  I made this change on mine because personally im not a big fan of hats with dc.. I don't like to see my hair under the hat. Using the J ho...

Loom up

Last night I met up with some of my former loom students to show them the new looms and other great products I received at the CHA. One of my students went home and told her husband how much she loved the all n one loom and ordered that night!! AllNOne  Click the link to see the loom everyone is the most excited about. in the photo you can see it on the table, I love it because as the name suggests it's truly an all in one. You can double knit and adjust the width or you can knit flat.  in the next few weeks I will write and film a full review on it.  I also have the  Tadpole  which is great because it's portable and small ( it also has great instructions) and the  sock loom . I have used sock looms before where the grooves were not big enough and that made me hate making socks! This one like all the looms I can tell is made better so be on the look out as soon as I get sock yarn for a sock photos!!! I also have the  Afghan Loom  being ...

Hello everyone! Whew this past weekend at the CHA has been a whirlwind! I got hit hard with cold so thank you for waiting a few days for me to get this post up!! For those that don't know this last Friday to Tuesday was the Craft and Hobby Show in Anaheim, CA . As you can see above I ran into Mikey from The Crochet Crowd in the Red Heart booth. Red Heart has a new motto this year " Make it. Love it. Share it. " Mikey and Diva Dan were a delight to meet in person! I can not say enough what down to earth real and awesome people they were! I really enjoyed speaking with them at the booth, on the show room floor and at the Prime CHA Networking event.

YARN BOMB - the basic how to yarn bomb guide with out wasting yarn!

I love the idea of Yarn bombing but I hate the idea of the yarn going to waste after the event. I just made one for my son's school and I designed it in a way the all of it can easily be used for items to donate for charity when it's all taken down next week. Here I am installing the smaller of the 2 ribbons I used many shades to give it a fun look. This is made of 3 scarves and will be donated after so no yarn will be wasted!
