Orange County Fair Project- my crochet art entry for "Home Sweet Home"

Hello everyone!!! I submitted my fair entry today and I wanted to share some of the details of my project with you :)

This was my basic concept however it got way bigger but then smaller due to health problemsI've had in the last 6 weeks.. My 3 year old also managed to break a crate, ruin some of the fence post and make off with a thread snake and about 20 flowers under his bed!! LOL Having to redesign at the last minute due to his "help" ( but He loves it soo much so I take it as a complement!)  actually made me due some things differently which I liked!!)

For example I came up with these cute Butterflies at the last minute using netted yarn! I used Starbella by premier yarns but you can do it with any other netted type yarn.

Here is a look at the Home Sweet Home sign I remade this morning sine I was already redoing somethings I desided to redo this and make it look more "Hand Made" The first one felt too perfect and like something mass produced. The yarn I used here was from Eco Yarn a nice little shop I found on Etsy! Eco Duff is super helpful and even shared with me how eco yarn is remade!! What she does is goes out to thrift store and gets knit and crochet sweaters, deconstructs them ( not very easy... I tried... hahahaha, on a side note that is how I got sick!! Apparently I have an anaphylactic reaction to some of the finishes of some wools...Not a fun thing to discover, let me tell you!) washes them and they are lovely hank or center pull balls if you ask!! If I bought this high of a quality of yanr in a store I think it would be about triple! The pink is a very soft wool the felts soo lovely!! The blueish tur. is a 4 strand type cotton which is one of the best cottons I have ever felt!!!!
I crocheted a basic rectangle with a chain 3 sl border and surface stitch crocheted the letters! ( I show how to do surface stitch here :) I also have a link :))
The front!

a side

this is a 3 sided project! Look you can see my orange  garden snake poking through the fence

Okay I have teased you long enough here is the front view!!!! I would like to mention doing the project at ALL was inspired By the one and only Mikey From The Crochet Crowd! He did an amazing tree filled with flowers and sooo much more!!!! Also I found a great page of facebook by accident I was trying to look up The Crochet Crowd but found the The Creative Crochet Crew instead and WOW I love getting up and seeing all the bright and fun things she finds and posts!! All the color on there inspired me to be more blod that my normal choices!!
Let start at the bottom... I crocheted chains using a boucle yarn ( I forgot the name but I bought it at Micheals) after attaching my posts I hot glued them up and down on top. OUCH I won't tell you how many times I burnt myself!!!!

The POSTS - each one is a different stitch!!! Laces, mesh, shells, hdc, dc, tr, basket weave :) I used 3 different whites, Loops and Thread White, Loops and Thread Glimmer, and Redheart Super Savor in White. The posts took me the longest ( I made double what I used) and were the first thing I did after I spry painted the 4 crates sky blue.
I love all my flowers But THIS is my favorite! This is after a real flower! It's Bolivia's ( in South America) National Flower. I used Bernat Mosaic and a thin red yarn from Griffen Family Crafts. I've know the owner since 7th grade !!! My friend Mallory spins some cool yarn :)

I used my own patterns for my flowers except for the 2 made with the thick Charisma yarn those are using The Crochet Geek's Pattern.
Yarns I used: I am sharing for those who are interested, I do not represent any of these brands! Vanna's Choice, Loops and Threads: Charisma, Impeccable, and Glimmer, Bernat Mosaic, and Satin, premier yarns Starbella.Lion's Brand Homespun, Redheart Botique Sashay, Magical, and Midnight, Redheart soft and super savor,Griffen family crafts yarn, Eco Yarn, 99cent store yarn and some yarn from England I picked up at a yard sale!!

So They will judge on the 30th but I won't know if I place or anything until I go to the fair or someone goes on opening day and calls and tells me?? Either way they give everyone a Orange ribbon!!!

If I don't place I wont be upset because I had a lot of challenges and this is only my first year! I will be twice as big and more detailed next year :)

Have you ever made crochet art? or Yarn Bombed? Or entered the county fair share you story below!

On the top of the cross attach yarn and chain 26, skip the first 5 and sl to the first chain. Then I added a tassel. Easy simple no shaping stocking ornament

Step 1 This is the star stitch but you can make these any size and any stitch just make it in this shape. The above sample has 19 star stiches on the bottom ( 2 rows plus beginning hdc row)and reduces to 10 star stiches ( 3 rows) step 2 turn so the right sides are facing each other, and sew them together like the above picture,. isdsjfklajlkdsjc step three turn right side out! attach a chain 5 if desires so you can hang it. I am making about 30 of these for my 6 year old to hand out as Christmas gifts at school with mini candy canes in them!
