off kilter Granny

This Granny was inspired my amazing 7 year old! He was sick all weekend so I made a square in his favorite color!

I used a I hook and Vanna's Choice
in Sapphire

I really like this square and I think it would be a fun one to do 50 rounds or so in for a baby blanket or a lap blanket.

For those of you that can read Crochet charts you can see my notes on how to create this awesome square!
I am writing this pattern out the way i used to teach it in my classes at Michaels

Round 1
has 4 sides 3dc
and 4 corners ch3
Round 2
has 4 sides
each side has 1 dc, ch1, skip 1 3dc
has 4 corners
each corner has 2dc ch3 2dc
Round 3
has 4 sides
each side has 4dc, skip 1, ch1, 2dc
has 4 corners
each corner has 2dc, ch3, 2dc
Round 4
Has 4 sides
each side has 7dc,ch1, skip 1,
has 4 corners
2dc, ch3, 2dc
Round 5
has 4 sides
each side has 10 dc, ch1, skip 1, 4dc
has 4 corners
each corner has 2dc,ch2,2dc

What do you think of this format? Most of my beginning students loved it and found it easier. Some hated it... Let me know what you think ( in a nice way please) below in the comments!

  1. I have no way of understanding this. I got most by looking at the diagram you drew. It looks like you made a magic ring and ch3, or ch6, 3 dc, ch3, around, sl st in 3rd ch...? Is that how you started it?

finger crochet cowl

Hey everyone! I took a ball of Lionbrand Heartland Thick and Quick with me to an Angel baseball game. I always bring yarn because while going to games is fun the boys in my life enjoy them far more than I do! This project to only took me 1/2 of an inning to create so it you want something quick this is your project.

I only used 1/2 of the ball but you can get an extreme one by using the whole ball... it would be perfect for cooler weather.

I started by making a slip knot with my fingers.
Then I wrapped the yarn around my index finger and pulled through so that I was chaining with my fingers. See photos below. After you have finger crocheted the length you want, I did 1/2 the ball knot the end, wrap around your neck to the desired length and use about 6 inches to wrap around all the strands like the photos show. I weaved in my ends or you can use fabric glue to make it super secure. Any 5 ply or 6 ply yarn can be used to make this.I have a kids tutorial for finger crochet here

On the top of the cross attach yarn and chain 26, skip the first 5 and sl to the first chain. Then I added a tassel.
