Help me name this square!

With out trying I think I just used all the colors in my bathroom counter!!

The inspiration behind this square was having no power for the 3 days in less than 9 days!!!!!!!!!! ( thank you power company for not realizing  that my house would be affected by the outage even though your workers had to be in my yard to work on the poles..... okay end rant....  )

I didn't want to do just another plain black square but not having power while trying to study for my music theory midterm didn't have me in the best of moods! However I am delighted and I love the way this came out! please comment below and help me choose a name!

For this square I used Vanna's choice in
Pearl Mist
Dark Grey Heather
Black
Charcoal Grey
Linnen

* I made my first one in black and linnen *

Using a G or H Hook and Pearl Mist

Make a LARGE magic circle

Round 1
ch3,2dc,ch2, *3dc,ch2*repeat 6 more times for a total of 8 sides and 8 corners join.

Switch to Charcoal Grey
Round 2
sl in any corner, ch5, dc, ch3,sc in next corner ,ch3,*dc,ch2,dc in next corner,ch3, sc in next corner , ch3* repeat 2 times so you have 4 v stiches ( dc,ch2dc) and 4 sc's . Join to the 3rd chain in the beginning ch5

Switch to Black
Round 3
sl and ch 6 in any v stitch, *2tr ( triple crochet , wrap the hook one more time than dc and pull through 2 at a time like you do for dc) ch3,2tr ( all in the sc ) ch 4 hdcin v stitch,ch4* repeat 2 more times , the 2tr,ch3,2tr in the last v stitch, ch4 and join with the 2nd chain in the starting ch6.
you can weave your ends as you go or wait until the end, which ever is your preference. With this square because of the chains i want to sew my ends in with a yarn needle instead of my hook so that is why you see my tails!

Switch to Dark Grey Heather
Round 4
Ch3 in any corner ( 2tr,ch3,2tr) 2d,ch2,3dc, ch1,3dc in ch4 space,ch1, 3dc in next ch4 space,ch1 * 3dc ,ch2, 3dc in next corner, ch1, 3dc,ch1 in each of the next 2 ch4 spaces* repeat 2 more times and join.

Switch to Linnen
Round 5
Attach in any corner
ch3, 2dc,ch2,2dc. ch3 sl in ch1 space, ch3, 3dc in next ch1 space, ch3 sl in next ch1 space, ch3 *3dc,ch2, 3dc in corner, ch3, sl in ch1 space, ch3, 3dc in next ch1 space, ch3, sl in next ch1 space, ch3*repeat 2 more times and join.

Block your square for even better results!

What do you think of this? Mine reminds me of something from a Jane Austin book or old time England! What colors will you use?

  2. When I read your post asking for help naming this square, I looked at it wrong and thought you'd typed "squirrel" instead of "square." Crazy, I know but it's been a very difficult week that, trust me, you do NOT wanna know about. lol You also mentioned the colors in your bathroom so I put that together and the first thing that popped into my head was " Mary's Squirrel Square." You have to admit that it's a very unique name that no other yarn supplier would ever think of and the variation of colors does look like that of a squirrel. So, what do ya think? : )
